Ether Saga Online

Ether Saga Online (later rebranded Ether Saga Odyssey) was a free-to-play MMORPG developed by Perfect World, based on the Chinese literary classic Journey to the West, combining lavish anime-styled visuals with a storyline involving magic treasures and an evil general transformed into a pig. Players chose from four distinct races (the human Ren, demigod Shenzu, once-animal Yaoh, and demonic dragon-people Mogui) and eight classes, supported by an engaging pet system used for combat, defense and healing. The game launched its closed beta February 2009 and fully released July 1, 2009, later receiving the substantial 'Odyssey' overhaul with a new engine and updated UI; publisher Arc Games officially shut the game down on January 4, 2016. A dedicated volunteer-run private server, operating entirely on donations with no ties to Perfect World, has since kept the original game playable under the Ether Saga Online name.
