Amazon has confirmed New World: Aeternum will be permanently shut down on January 31, 2027 — this is a full closure, not just a shift to maintenance mode.
The game was delisted from all storefronts on January 15, 2026, so new players can no longer purchase it; only existing owners can still install and play.
In-game currency (Marks of Fortune) purchases end July 20, 2026, and Amazon has stated no refunds will be issued for previously bought currency.
Active player counts have fallen dramatically — Steam concurrent numbers dropped from a 2025 peak around 51,000 to roughly 1,200 daily players by the time of the shutdown announcement.
The shutdown follows Amazon's October 2025 announcement that it had already stopped producing new content, itself part of broader company-wide layoffs affecting Amazon Games.
