Why you might like it

  • MU Origin adapted the recognizable MU Online formula to short mobile sessions. Dark Knight, Dark Wizard and Elf characters developed through rapid levels, equipment enhancement, spectacular wings and familiar MU locations without requiring the original PC client.
  • Its loop emphasized constant power growth through gear, skills, wings, bosses and dungeons. Parties could tackle world bosses while guild systems expanded into guild bosses, shops and real-time Loren Castle Siege competition.
  • The game is historically important as an early major mobile reinterpretation of a long-running PC MMORPG, establishing many of the automated progression, dense upgrade and cross-server conventions later used by MU Origin sequels and similar mobile MMOs.

Things to consider

  • Webzen terminated the Western MU Origin service in 2022. The original app should not be considered currently playable in that region, even though MU Online, MU Origin 2, MU Origin 3 and licensed regional products may still operate separately.
  • MU Origin was a mobile reimagining rather than a direct port of classic MU Online. Automated combat, faster advancement, many currencies and mobile monetization substantially changed the feel of progression and the importance of manual play.
  • Accounts and purchases do not automatically transfer among MU-branded games or regional publishers. Confirm the exact title, operator and territory before installing anything; a currently active MU product is not proof that the 2016 Western MU Origin service returned.
